Yay! You’re getting married! Once you and your partner have enjoyed all the champagne and are ready to kick your planning process into high gear, we always recommend securing your biggest vendors first. These are typically your wedding venue, photo and video team, and wedding planner. Where you go from here really just depends on what is at the top of your priority list! If there is a bartender or photo booth that you absolutely MUST work with, lock that vendor in next. If you are looking to select particular artists for your hair and makeup team, secure those vendors next! Once you’re ready to start nailing down your hair and makeup team, don't worry if you haven't chosen your dress, finalized your desired look, or even decided who will be receiving services yet. The priority at this stage is securing the most talented and reliable team!
To make your hair and makeup team hiring process as easy as possible, we’ve compiled a list of the most essential questions to ask when researching your wedding day hair and makeup companies. We went ahead and gave you our answers so you can feel ready to secure your date with us!
Do your artists practice proper sanitation and safety precautions?
In short, YES! Our infection control protocols are our top priority. We always use fresh, clean brushes and disposable materials on each member of the bridal party. We wash our hands regularly, use sanitizer between clients, and keep our metal tools clean with alcohol spray. We never double-dip powder products, and we wipe down all surfaces after each use. Your safety is our main concern!
Do your artists and stylists have professional training?
All of our artists are professionally trained, licensed, and experienced hairstylists or makeup artists. All Updos For I Dos artists have been handpicked and vetted through our rigorous hiring process! Check out our 4.9 star rating with over 850+ reviews on WeddingWire.
Do you have a minimum number of services?
Yes, we do! Check out our FAQ's page for a more in-depth breakdown of our minimum service requirements.
How far in advance do I need to book my hair and makeup services?
We typically start seeing dates begin booking 12 to 18 months out. Popular dates can book up many months in advance. We recommend booking your hair and makeup services at least 9 months in advance, especially if you have a specific date or artist in mind! This will give us enough time to discuss your vision and make sure we are available on your chosen date. If you're booking last minute, don't worry - we will always try our best to accommodate your needs!
How often is someone working in your office answering the phone and emails?
Our Operations Team responds to emails and general inquiries Tuesday through Friday mornings, while Fridays and Saturdays we focus on executing our current weddings. After a little recharge on Sunday and Monday, we are back at it! We know planning is a lot of work, so rest assured, we respond quickly to make it as easy for you as possible!
What is the deposit and is it applied towards the final contract balance?
We require a flat-fee deposit to reserve your date and it is applied towards your final contract balance.
Is my deposit refundable?
No, your deposit is non-refundable in the event of a cancellation.
Are trials included in the rates?
Trials are not included in your wedding day hair and makeup pricing. They are an additional fee.
Who pays for services?
The person handling the payment for hair and makeup services can vary! It is usually either the bride herself, the mother of the bride, or whoever is hosting the wedding party. Sometimes, the bride may choose to have the bridal party split the costs for their services. It all just depends on what the bride (and her family) decides!

How do I know that my artist(s) will show up for my wedding day?
We take scheduling very seriously! All of our artists constantly check their calendars and emails. They receive your wedding day schedule a week prior to your big day so they are fully prepared. We also always have a manager on-call and require our artists to check-in with said manager, this way, we know everyone is where they need to be!
What happens if my artist is sick on the week or day of my wedding?
We always have a back-up plan. If your artist is unable to provide services for your wedding day, we will send one of our back-up artists. Rest assured, you will receive the same quality of services!
Will I meet the same artist(s) at my trial that will come to me on my wedding day?
Yes! The artists that you work with for your trial will be the artists providing services on your wedding day.
Are your artists experienced working with all different skin tones and textures?
Yes, our makeup artists are trained to work with all skin tones and textures! All of our makeup artists' kits include a wide variety of foundation shades so they can always find the perfect match for you. Our hairstylists are also trained to work with a variety of hair textures. Rest assured, you and your party will be in the most experienced hands!
How much time is needed for my group?
This mostly depends on how many members are receiving services and what your day-of timeline is. We typically allot 30-40 minutes per service. Once we confirm our availability for your wedding, we will work with you to customize your hair and makeup timeline so your getting ready experience will be relaxing and fun.
