For hairstylists and makeup artists looking for flexible and rewarding work in the wedding industry, working with an established beauty team (such as ours!) can be a very exciting opportunity. But what is it really like? We asked three of our talented artists - Steffani, Dana, and Suzy - about their experiences working with Updos For I Dos. Steffani’s Experience
Steffani has been working with Updos For I Dos for nearly 16 years! She first learned about our team through Ashley, the original owner of Updos For I Dos, whom she knew from middle school. For her, the best part of working with Updos is having the opportunity to meet a diverse range of brides and bridesmaids; she loves meeting with new people every weekend! On wedding days, she loves seeing her bride’s vision come together, and maybe seeing some happy tears as well. Her advice to new hair and makeup artists entering the bridal industry is to always listen to the brides and be sure to provide a strong consultation during trials. A thorough trial ensures that every wedding day will go completely flawlessly!
Dana’s Experience
Dana’s journey with Updos For I Dos began with her own wedding! After a not-so-thrilling trial elsewhere, she found Updos For I Dos and was so impressed with their professionalism and responsiveness that she later joined the team herself. Continue reading to learn more about her experience with us!
Q: When did you start working with Updos?
A: I originally learned about Updos For I Dos when planning my own wedding! As a hairstylist myself, I wanted to relax on my big day, but my initial trial with another company didn’t go well. I found Updos For I Dos, and they nailed my look. A year later, I asked if they were hiring, and I’ve been with the team for about 16 years now!
Q: What is your #1 most favorite thing about working with Updos?
A: All the thought and work done behind the scenes to ensure everyone is on the same page. This allows us to focus on the artistry while the bridal party focuses on the bride!
Q: What is your favorite part of a wedding day as an artist?
A: Simply being the artist, creating personalized hairstyles and being part of someone’s most special day!
Q: What piece of advice would you share with a new Hair or Makeup Artist trying to start their career in bridal artistry?
A. Remember that it’s about them! You might not love every look you create, but if they love it, that’s all that matters. Also, stay calm. Our energy influences the mood in the room more than we realize!
Suzy’s Experience
Suzy joined Updos For I Dos in 2022 after discovering the team during a class at Paul Mitchell hair school! She was so impressed by their skill and professionalism, which inspired her to become a part of the team. Her favorite aspect of working with Updos is the high level of organization and professionalism! On wedding days, she loves the touch-up stage, where she gets to see the final looks come together, compliment the bridal party, and give them one final boost of confidence before parting ways for the day. Her advice to aspiring bridal artists is to practice relentlessly on mannequins and/or real people until their skills become second nature!
